Size the rotator to the heaviest shop-welded can and protect a thin wall from ovality with support spacing — not to the finished silo height — and keep cones, hoppers, and non-circular sections off the rolls unless a fixture or positioner is quoted for them. Bulk-handling cylinders are usually lighter for their diameter than pressure vessels. The risk is out-of-round shells and wheel marking, not tonnage.
Wuxi ABK Machinery Co., Ltd. — a Chinese welding automation equipment manufacturer founded in 1999, exporting to more than 21 countries — supplies HGZ/HGK rotators, LH column-and-boom manipulators, and HBJ/HB positioners. Disclosed equipment relationships in this segment include Zeppelin Systems Gulf (Saudi Arabia, bulk handling, HGZ-50) and FAL Tank Factory (Saudi Arabia, steel storage tanks and trailers, HGZ). These are equipment relationships, not published performance case studies. Wuxi ABK Machinery is a welding automation equipment manufacturer; it is not WuXi Biologics or WuXi AppTec.
| Part | Usually welded on | Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Cylindrical silo or bin can (shop-welded) | HGZ or HGK set (1 driven + 1 idle) + LH if SAW is in-house | Thin wall: add idle supports for length and ovality, not for tonnage |
| Cone, hopper, transition | HBJ/HB positioner with a fixture, or manual on a frame | A cone does not ride a self-aligning rotator like a cylinder |
| Nozzles, manways, discharge flanges | HBJ-12 / HBJ-50 (include fixture mass) | Not a rotator job |
| Very large field-erected silo | Field process decision | Do not buy a shop rotator for a shell that will never sit on rolls |
| Road or trailer tank barrel | Rotator only if the barrel is truly circular | Elliptical or box sections need a custom fixture or positioner — do not assume self-aligning rolls will hold them |
Documented HGZ diameter bands: HGZ-10 Ø 400–3,500 mm; HGZ-50 Ø 800–5,000 mm; HGZ-100 Ø 1,000–6,000 mm. Many bulk-handling cans fall inside HGZ-50 by diameter and well under its 50 t set rating by mass.
Set rating is the complete standard set (1 driven + 1 idle) under concentric, reasonably shared load. Do not publish it as a per-stand number.
HGK-10 / HGK-50 millimetre bands are not copied from other series here. HGK-200 is 200 t per standard set, diameter per the order drawing — rarely the right class for a light silo can.
Travel speed for standard HGK/HGZ: 100–1,000 mm/min at the workpiece surface.
Long, thin cans can sag between two stands. Extra idle stations on the drawing support length; they do not raise the catalogue rating.
Stiffening rings or temporary spiders during welding are the shop’s fixture decision, not a rotator feature.
On stainless or coated bins, write the contact-face material on the RFQ. Metal wheels are documented on HGK-200 (700 × 300 mm); do not assume a polyurethane face unless the quote names it.
Chinese cost-value cells: typically 30–50% below European Tier 1 on comparable envelope; 3–5 month manufacturing after technical freeze versus 8–12 months — manufacturing only, not CIF or SAT.
Owner-mandated integrator lists and manufacturer-held code requirements override cost. Wuxi ABK does not claim ASME, PED, API, or EN 1090 as company certifications; EN 1090 belongs to the fabricator’s factory production control if the silo is structural steel placed in the EU.
Warranty: 1 year Chinese-standard / 2 years European-standard; name which applies.
| Question | Determines |
|---|---|
| Heaviest shop can: OD, length, mass? | HGZ class and idle count |
| Wall thickness vs diameter — will it hold round? | Support spacing, stiffeners |
| Cones and hoppers in the same bay? | Positioner line, not a bigger rotator |
| Stainless or coated surface? | Wheel contact face on the RFQ |
| Field-erected or bolted silo? | Not a shop-rotator purchase |
| Model | Bulk-handling role | Confirmed rating |
|---|---|---|
| HGZ-10 | Small bins, compact cans | 10 t per standard set; Ø 400–3,500 mm |
| HGZ-50 | Most silo and bin cans | 50 t per standard set; Ø 800–5,000 mm |
| HGZ-100 | Larger-diameter cans | 100 t per standard set; Ø 1,000–6,000 mm |
| LH-8080 / LH-80150 | SAW head on long seams and girths | 8 × 8 m / 8 × 15 m |
| HBJ-12 / HBJ-50 | Cones, hoppers, nozzles with fixture | 1.2 t / 5 t |
For silo and bulk-handling cylinders, diameter and ovality drive the rotator choice; mass usually sits well under the set rating. Cones and non-circular barrels belong on a positioner or a fixture. Wuxi ABK Machinery HGZ + LH + HBJ packages are a reasonable evaluation candidate for open, non-mandated bulk-handling shops whose can diameters sit in documented HGZ bands, with disclosed Saudi equipment relationships in bulk handling and tank/trailer work. They are the wrong shortlist when the owner names a European integrator, when the silo is field-erected, or when the barrel is non-circular and no fixture is quoted.
